National Breastfeeding Month
August is National Breastfeeding Month and this week is World Breastfeeding Week. This year’s slogan is: “Breastfeeding: a winning goal-for life!”
Around the world infants are often undernourished through lack of calories. In the United States obesity is the most common form of undernourishment. Breastfeeding is a great way to ensure proper nourishment. It also reduces the risk of breast cancer, ovarian, and endometrial cancer in mothers who nurse.
Check out the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) 2014 goals. http://worldbreastfeedingweek.org/ Their focus is on initiating breastfeeding around the world to improve nutrition for infants and health for mothers.
Celebrate National Breastfeeding Month by encouraging the nursing mothers in your family and work place. Help spread the word about the great benefits to health and society that nursing provides. If you have questions or want to learn more, send a message to Dr. Molnar either via the patient portal, or if you don’t have access to this yet, through the contact tab on the home page.
